DIR®/Floortime is the
Developmentally appropriate, relationship based approach to treatment developed by
Stanley Greenspan, MD and Serena Wieder, PhD.

This conference will deepen your understanding of the DIR®/Floortime model as it is presented in the format of case based presentations.   Cases will be presented reviewing the initial assessment of the child using the Functional Emotional Developmental Levels (FEDL), the progression of treatment and current functioning.  Cases, with extensive use of video, will be presented in a variety of environments including clinic, school, home and social settings.

Following each presentation a discussion of the case will be led by Sherri and Rosemary. The participants will be active in the discussion as we delve into the DIR®/Floortime model.

Sherri Cawn, MA, C.C.C., SLP and Rosemary White OTR/L – DIR® FACULTY since 2002:
This conference will follow the format of extensive case presentations with assessment and then the implementation of the DIR®/Floortime Approach in the treatment of the child from the perspective of a DIR® Speech and Language Clinician and a DIR OT Clinician.
The integration of this model will be presented in a variety of settings and cases will be presented using the DIR®/Floortime Model with Therapists, Educators, and Floortime Players.  There will also be an emphasis on coaching parents in the DIR® Floortime Model.
The DIR®/Floortime Faculty will lead discussions on the cases with the participants.

Participants will develop a deeper understanding of:

  • The DIR® Model as an effective treatment approach that can be used by all those interacting with children with disorders in communicating and relating including Autistic Spectrum. How to use the FEDL as a way to assess the child and to determine the type of support they need to enhance their capacity to relate and interact.
  • Assessing a child’s individual differences and using this information to individualize treatment.
